Cancer cells slurp up fructose, U.S. study finds

Kids,

This is a fascinating study implicating refined fructose sugars as a major culprit in the spread of cancer cells. This is huge because it states that all sugars are NOT created equal.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Pancreatic tumor cells use fructose to divide and proliferate, U.S. researchers said on Monday in a study that challenges the common wisdom that all sugars are the same.

Tumor cells fed both glucose and fructose used the two sugars in two different ways, the team at the University of California Los Angeles found.
They said their finding, published in the journal Cancer Research, may help explain other studies that have linked fructose intake with pancreatic cancer, one of the deadliest cancer types.

"These findings show that cancer cells can readily metabolize fructose to increase proliferation," Dr. Anthony Heaney of UCLA's Jonsson Cancer Center and colleagues wrote.
"They have major significance for cancer patients given dietary refined fructose consumption, and indicate that efforts to reduce refined fructose intake or inhibit fructose-mediated actions may disrupt cancer growth."

Americans take in large amounts of fructose, mainly in high fructose corn syrup, a mix of fructose and glucose that is used in soft drinks, bread and a range of other foods.
Politicians, regulators, health experts and the industry have debated whether high fructose corn syrup and other ingredients have been helping make Americans fatter and less healthy.
Too much sugar of any kind not only adds pounds, but is also a key culprit in diabetes, heart disease and stroke, according to the American Heart Association.

Several states, including New York and California, have weighed a tax on sweetened soft drinks to defray the cost of treating obesity-related diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

The American Beverage Association, whose members include Coca-Cola and Kraft Foods have strongly, and successfully, opposed efforts to tax soda. [ID:nN12233126]

The industry has also argued that sugar is sugar.

Heaney said his team found otherwise. They grew pancreatic cancer cells in lab dishes and fed them both glucose and fructose.

Tumor cells thrive on sugar but they used the fructose to proliferate. "Importantly, fructose and glucose metabolism are quite different," Heaney's team wrote.
"I think this paper has a lot of public health implications. Hopefully, at the federal level there will be some effort to step back on the amount of high fructose corn syrup in our diets," Heaney said in a statement.

Now the team hopes to develop a drug that might stop tumor cells from making use of fructose.

U.S. consumption of high fructose corn syrup went up 1,000 percent between 1970 and 1990, researchers reported in 2004 in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.

Work/Rest Intervals Ratchet Up Workouts ~ New York (Reuter Life!)

If your cardio routine is in the doldrums, try mixing a little tortoise in with that hare. Experts say interval training, alternating bursts of intensity activity with less intense periods, can burn more calories, boost stamina, and stave off that burning pain that stops any workout dead in its tracks. "Interval training burns calories quicker. If you're doing interval training for 20 minutes it can burn as many calories you would in 40 minutes," said Kerri O'Brien of Life Fitness, which designs and manufactures exercise equipment. "It depends on level of intensity, the weight of your body, the intensity of what you're doing," she added. And the principle holds whether you're an elite athlete, a weekend warrior or a couch potato. "We can do different things based on your goals and fitness level," she said. "We can work with low intensities that require walking, then stop and do jumping jacks." O'Brien said interval training increases endurance by clearing lactic acid, the byproduct of exercise. "That burning pain is lactic acid building up," said O'Brien. "Whether you're strength training, or walking, or climbing stairs, it's lactic acid that tells your body to stop.

Interval training is literally training your body to clear that lactic acid more efficiently" There is also the psychological boost. "Interval training reduces training time, and the less time you have to commit to exercising, the more likely you are to stay exercising. It reduces boredom and increases variety and challenge," O'Brien added. Andrea Metcalf, a Chicago-based group fitness instructor, said interval training burns more calories and increases fitness lung volume faster than steady state work. "The best intervals are those with a two-to-one rest/work interval: sprint for one minute and mid- pace recovery for two minutes," said Metcalf, a fitness expert for more than 20 years. Julia Valentour, of the American Council on Exercise, said interval training works because when you alternate bouts of high and low intensity your overall intensity level rises. She said a 2005 study found that cyclists who did four to seven bouts of 30-second all-out cycling doubled their endurance in only two weeks. "You wouldn't want to do it every day," she cautioned. "You could over train. I like to warm up, then increase speed, run fast for a minute, then slow down for a minute, then run fast for a minute," she said.

Fartlek is an unstructured method of interval training. The word means speed play in Swedish. "With Fartlek you say, 'I'm going to jog to that telephone pole.' Interval training can be very structured. Fartlek can be tailored to how a person feels that day," she said. O'Brien said while the Fartlek method is used mostly for long-distance running, it can apply equally to bikers and swimmers. The key to any interval training, she said, is a really good warm-up to prepare your body for what's to come. Integrating interval training into your routine can be as easy as changing the program on your treadmill or elliptical machine. "The interval button is a wonderful one to push," O'Brien said. "Avoid the manual button. I call it the complacency button. Hit it and you're just going to read your magazine." Copyright 2010 Reuters.

Sister Kit strikes again!

Got stress? These days, most all of us do. Much of the reason why is due to the fact that we live in a world that demands instant communication, our kids are involved in more organized activities than we were when we were younger, and many of us live in households where both partners work outside the home just to make ends meet.

So how do we combat the stress caused by these factors? There are many things you can do, but I am here to tell you that exercise has as much beneft for your emotional and mental fitness as it does your physical fitness.

Researchers at Duke University studied people suffering from depression for 4 months and found that 60% of the participants who exercised for 30 minutes three times a week overcame their depression without using antidepressant medication. And, you don't need to suffer from a clinical or diagnosed mental illness to get substantial mental health benefits from exercise and fitness. One study I read showed that short workouts of just 8 minutes in length could lower sadness, tension, and anger along with improving resistance to disease in healthy people.

So, if you come home from work tired and stressed out from a long, frustrating day instead of making the choice to skip your workout--that is the exact moment when you MUST do it. Think about it--It's usually this time when we reach for crappy food, take our stress out on others or sit in front of TV and just sink deeper into a bad mood. If in that instance you made the choice to push play with a fitness DVD, went for a jog or just did jumping jacks for 10 minutes you would feel THE COMPLETE OPPOSITE of how you felt had you made the other poor choices. Exercise is ALWAYS the BETTER choice. I have been known do to vinyasas and headstands in my cube at work when I finish a stressful meeting or phone call. It's a little strange, but boy is my mental clarity and focus better when I do and I am SO glad when I choose that instead of dipping my hand into the candy bowl.

So, next time you are feeling down or stressed, make the time to get some blood flowing to that hippocampus at the base of your brain and feel better physically and emotionally. DO IT FOR YOUR BRAIN AND YOUR BODY!!!

Emotional Eating by Susan Lucy

Did you ever have one of those moments where you are trying to find an answer or solution and like magic, something happens that is exactly what you are looking for? I was sitting here tonight trying to think of a topic to write about this week. I knew I wanted to focus on food - we are entering the danger zone with Halloween, Thanksgiving and then Christmas on the horizon. As I sat there thinking, I got a little distress email from a friend who was struggling lately with her eating habits. Bingo - So this week's topic is on one that is very close to my heart - EMOTIONAL EATING.
Emotional eating happens any time you eat, not because you are physically hungry, but because you have feelings of boredom, depression, loneliness, fear, anger or frustration. Eating takes your mind off the feelings. Eating comforts you - well some of the time.
Have you ever had this scenario: You are dealing with some stress - maybe you under a deadline for something, maybe you are fighting with your spouse, your children; you walk by a bowl of candy and mindlessly grab one. You are saying to yourself "don't do it" but it's only one right? How bad is that for you? Sometimes, that one candy is all you needed but sometimes, that breach opens some flood gates. The little demons take over. You grab one or maybe two more and start saying "well you already blew it, you might as well keep eating them" and so you do and more than likely you ultimately feel horribly, physically and emotionally.
I believe there is a fine line between that "comfort" stage and that "I feel like crap" stage. Unfortunately, when we eat emotionally, we sometimes are unable to stop ourselves before we get to the latter stage. That's when food becomes our enemy and then we have more than just one problem - we still have the original feeling (like stress) to deal with but now we also feel bad because we ate too much or too poorly. Suddenly, food isn't so comforting anymore.
As many of you know, I was a very big emotional eater, so much so, I developed Bulimia to "treat" my bad habit. It took me many many years and many successes and failures to figure out strategies that worked for me. Emotional eating is really hard because unlike alcohol or drugs, we NEED food so if that is your "addiction", then you HAVE to find a way to control your eating habits and learn to live with food. Through new habits, a love of my body to treat it well, and a strong will to be better, I have been able to ward off most emotional eating disasters but I know I am still suseptible to them and probably always will be.
Here are some ideas that I use that have helped me tremendously. Keep in mind though, sometimes, despite all the strategies, emotional eating will win and your best strategy there is to be forgiving of yourself and move on because tomorrow is a new day and we all get a do-over. Nobody is perfect!!
  • Keep a food diary. Identifying any stress, negative thoughts or emotions you're having at the time will help you determine why you are eating. Sometimes just knowing you have to record what you ate will prevent you eating it. Be honest here!! You must record everything, not just the good stuff you ate. Food diaries are so critical to successful eating, I can't say enough about them.
  • Identify patterns of emotional eating. Many people find that overeating tends to occur at specific times and in specific places. For me, it's 4 pm almost daily. The kids get home from school; we are scrambling to get homework done, eat a mini dinner and then we are off to whatever event is on the daily calendar. (This is my Shakeology time - more on that later)
  • Plan alternatives and change routines. Do something that removes you from the situation that results in overeating. Sometimes all you need to do create a diversion. I will sometimes take 5 long breaths and then drink water or hot tea, go in my room, call a friend, go outside.
  • Remove tempting foods. Don't buy the foods you crave when stressed! Having them in your house or desk is a disaster waiting to happen. Have healthy alternatives that also satisfy that need (maybe some dark chocolate melted over strawberries - still feels like cheating but with a lot less calories than Oreos). I believe in allowing yourself a couple of "planned healthy cheats" a week will help you ward off overeating. Depriving yourself completely can send you into a tailspin. This is why I love Shakeology. I drink mine at 4pm - chocolate, sometimes with berries, sometimes with banana and some nut butter, always blended like a shake. It is healthy and satisfies all my cravings for something sugary and sweet. It has been a life saver!
  • Know when to give in. Sometimes, despite your best efforts, you may still give in to cravings. This is where the planning comes into play. For instance, if you really want some chips and you just have to have them - buy the single serving bags and allow yourself that. Don't bring the Supersize Tostitos over to the couch while you watch tv - big mistake - HUGE!!
  • Enjoy your meals. Turn off the tv, sit down, use a plate and utensils. Eat slowly ( It takes 15 minutes for the brain to realize you are full). Don't drink a lot of liquid during dinner. Taste your food and let you body be satisfied.
  • Have a success partner. It's always good to have someone to keep you accountable, to turn to when you need that distraction or to tell you "tomorrow is a new day" when "you blew it" (which isn't true because this is about lifestyle eating, not some DIET)
    Enough said.... onto other business.

Shocking rise in arthritis rates

Obesity won't just make you fat, sick and dead -- it'll also leave you crippled, weak and battling constant pain.

We've reached stunning new levels of national feebleness: New numbers show 52 million Americans -- that's nearly a quarter of all adults -- now struggle with arthritis. Twenty-one million of them say the condition is so severe that it limits what they can do.

But apparently, it didn't limit the ability to have another double cheeseburger, fries and cola -- supersize, please -- since these arthritis-stricken Americans just so happen to be overwhelmingly obese.

In fact, they make up the overwhelming majority of the arthritis patients -- suffering from the condition at nearly double the rate of normal-weight people.

According to the CDC, 18.9 percent of normal-weight women and 13.8 percent of normal-weight men suffer from arthritis... but it hits 33.8 percent of obese women and 25.2 percent of obese men.

And more than 60 percent of all obese people will suffer knee osteoarthritis at some point in their lives.

But what would you expect? Human knees were perfectly engineered to support humans... not 300-pound flesh mountains.

One study by Johns Hopkins University Hospital found that 10 extra pounds increases the force on each knee by between 30 and 60 pounds with every step.

Just imagine what being 30 or 40 pounds overweight will do!

The researchers behind the new study say arthritis is now our leading cause of disability, and costs us $128 billion a year -- and it's not going to get any better in the foreseeable future.

It's getting worse... much, much worse. The researchers estimate that by 2030, 67 million Americans will be suffering from arthritis.

I have no idea how they arrived at that number or how accurate it'll turn out to be -- but it wouldn't be surprising. Heck, if anything it sounds a little on the low side.

Of course, arthritis isn't limited to obese people. Live long enough, and you're bound to experience it yourself.

Exercise Combo Best for Type 2 Diabetes
HealthDay Serena Gordon November 24, 2010
Alternating aerobic exercise and resistance training significantly lowered blood sugar, study finds

Variety in your workout routine may be key to optimal diabetes management, new research suggests. The study found that when people with type 2 diabetes did aerobic exercise some days and resistance training on others, they had lower blood sugar levels after nine months than people who did either type of exercise alone."From a health perspective, the combination exercise program really outshined the others," said the study's lead author, Dr. Timothy Church, director of preventive medicine research at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University System in Baton Rouge."We really thought that the walking group and the combination group would be similar, but the combination group was the only group that had significant improvement. They reduced their HbA1C levels, while also reducing the amount of diabetes medications," said Church. The HbA1C test examines long-term (two to three months) blood sugar concentration. Unlike a fasting blood glucose test, the HbA1C indicates how well you've controlled your blood sugar over the past eight to 12 weeks. The findings from Church's study, which was funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, are published in the Nov. 24 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association.Exercise is commonly recommended for people with diabetes, but according to Church, the type of exercise that might be best for people with diabetes hasn't been well-studied.

To get a better idea of whether aerobic exercise (such as walking or running) or resistance training (such as weight lifting) was of more benefit, the researchers recruited 262 sedentary people with type 2 diabetes for a nine-month study. The average age of the participants was about 56. Sixty-three percent of the study volunteers were women and 47.3 percent were nonwhite. The researchers assigned 73 volunteers to resistance training, 72 to aerobic exercise, and 76 people to a combination of aerobic and resistance training. The remaining 41 people served as the control group and didn't exercise. The people in the resistance-training group exercised three days per week, and each session consisted of two sets of four upper-body exercises, three sets of three leg exercises, and two sets of abdominal crunches and back extensions. Most of these exercises were done with weight machines. The aerobic group did about 150 minutes a week of moderately paced walking on a treadmill. The combination group had two resistance-training sessions a week that consisted of one set each of the exercises listed above. They also walked slightly less than the aerobic-only group, because the researchers wanted to make sure that the time each participant exercised each week was roughly the same, no matter which group they were in. The researchers supervised all of the exercise sessions. To help ensure safety, all of the participants also saw a certified diabetes educator once a month to check for blisters and other potential problems.HbA1C levels are expressed as a percentage, and at the start of the study, the average level was 7.7 percent. The level indicates the amount of a substance in the blood called glycated hemoglobin, which builds up when excess sugar in the blood attaches to the hemoglobin in red blood cells. (Levels under 6 percent are generally considered normal in people without diabetes.)At the end of the study, the combination group had lowered their HbA1C levels by 0.34 percent compared to the control group, while the aerobic group went down 0.24 percent and the resistance-only group went down 0.16 percent. However, the only change that was considered statistically significant, according to the study, was the combination group's change.

Participants in all exercise groups reduced their waist size compared to the control group, and the group doing resistance training-only lost some fat mass as well. But people in the combination group also lowered the amount of diabetes medication they needed on average, and they lost the most fat mass -- about 4 pounds' worth -- compared with the control group, according to Church. They were also the only group to lose weight."For individuals with diabetes, the optimal program involves aerobic and resistance training," said Church."The biggest consumer of blood sugar is skeletal muscle, and anything you do to improve the health of your muscles will help control your use of blood sugar," he noted.Although the study didn't include people with type 1 diabetes, Church said he suspects that they would benefit from the combination of exercises as well. And, he added, it's likely that non-diabetics would get additional benefits from a combination of exercises, too."Someone who wants to maximize the impact on glucose control and maximize the use of their time should do both aerobic and resistance exercise," said Dr. Ronald Sigal, a professor of medicine at the University of Calgary and the author of an accompanying editorial in the same issue of the journal. "Even a relatively small amount of resistance exercise -- one set twice a week for about 20 minutes -- makes a difference.

Kindness goes longway

One day, when I was a freshman in high school, I saw a kid from my class was walking home from school. His name was Kyle. It looked like he was carrying all of his books. I thought to myself, "Why would anyone bring home all his books on a Friday? He must really be a
nerd."

I had quite a weekend planned (parties and a football game with my friends tomorrow afternoon), so I
shrugged my shoulders and went on.

As I was walking, I saw a bunch of kids running toward him. They ran at him, knocking all his books out of his arms and tripping him so he landed in the dirt. His glasses went flying, and I saw them land in the grass about ten feet from him. He looked up and I saw this terrible
sadness in his eyes.

My heart went out to him. So, I jogged over to him and as he crawled around looking for his glasses, I saw
a tear in his eye. As I handed him his glasses, I said, "Those guys are jerks. They really should get lives." He looked at me and said, "Hey thanks!" There was a big smile on his face.

It was one of those smiles t! hat showed real gratitude.

I helped him pick up his books, and asked him where he lived. As it turned out, he lived near me, so I asked him
why I had never seen him before. He said he had gone to private school before now.

I would have never hung out with a private school kid before. We talked all the way home, and I carried some of his books. He turned out to be a pretty cool kid. I
asked him if he wanted to play a little football with my friends. He said yes. We hung out all weekend and the
more I got to know Kyle, the more I liked him, and my friends thought the same of him.

Monday morning came, and there was Kyle with the huge stack of books again. I stopped him and said, "Boy, you are gonna really build some serious muscles with this pile of books everyday!" He just laughed and handed me half the books.

Over the next four years, Kyle and I became best friends. When we were seniors, we began to think about college. Kyle decided on Georgetown, and I
was going to Duke. I knew that we would always be friends, that the miles would never be a problem. He was going to be a doctor, and I was going for business on a football scholarship.

Kyle was valedictorian of our class. I teased him all the time about being a nerd. He had to prepare a speech for
graduation.

I was so glad it wasn't me having to get up there and speak...................................... Graduation day, I saw Kyle. He looked great. He was one of those guys that really found himself during high school. He filled out and actually looked good in glasses. He had more dates than I had and all the girls loved him.
Boy, sometimes I was jealous.

Today was one of those days. I could see that he was nervous about his speech. So, I smacked him on the back and said, "Hey, big guy, you'll be great!" He looked at me with one of those looks (the really grateful one) and smiled. "Thanks," he said.

As he started his speech, he cleared his throat, and began. "Graduation is a time to thank those who helped
you make it through those tough years. Your parents, your teachers, your siblings, maybe a coach...but mostly your friends. I am here to tell all of you that being a friend to someone is the best gift you can give them. I am going to tell you a story."

I just looked at my friend with disbelief as he told the story of the first day we met. He had planned to kill himself over the weekend...................................... He talked of how he had cleaned out his locker so his Mom wouldn't have to do it later and was carrying his stuff home.

He looked hard at me and gave me a little smile.

"Thankfully, I was saved. My friend saved me from doing the unspeakable."

I heard the gasp go through the crowd as this handsome, popular boy told us all about his weakest moment.

I saw his mom and dad looking at me and smiling that same
grateful smile. Not until that moment did I realize its depth.

Never underestimate the power of your actions. With one small gesture you can change a person's life. For
better or for worse.

God puts us all in each other's lives to impact one another in some way. Look for God in others.

You now have two choices, you can:
1) Pass this on to your friends or
2) Delete it and act like it didn't touch your heart.

As you can see, I took choice number 1. "Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."

Show your friends how much you care. Send this to everyone you consider a FRIEND. If it comes back to you, then you'll know you have a circle of friends.

Regards

Rohypnol

A woman at a nightclub (Mumbai) on Saturday night was taken by 5 men, who
according to hospital and police reports, gang raped her before dumping her at a Busstand in Mumbai. Unable to remember the events of the evening, tests later confirmed the repeat rapes along with traces of rohypnol in her blood.

Rohypnol, date rape drug is an essentially a small sterilization pill. The
drug is now being used by rapists at parties to rape AND sterilize their
victims. All they have to do is drop it into the girl's drink. The girl
can't remember a thing the next morning, of all that had taken place the
night before.

Rohypnol, which dissolves in drinks just as easily, is such that the victim doesn't conceive from the rape and the rapist needn't worry about having a paternity test identifying him months later. The Drug's affects ARE NOT TEMPORARY - they are PERMANENT.

Any female that takes it WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO CONCEIVE. The weasels can get this drug from anyone who is in the vet school or any university.

It's that easy, and Rohypnol is about to break out big on campuses
everywhere. Believe it or not, there are even sites on the Internet telling people how to use it.

Please forward this to everyone you know, especially girls. Girls, be careful when you're out and don't leave your drink unattended. (added - Buy your own drinks, ensure bottles or cans received are unopened
or sealed; don't even taste someone else's drink)

There has already been a report in Singapore of girls drink been Spiked by Rohypnol. Please make the effort to forward this to everyone you know.

For guys - Pls inform all your female friends and relatives, remember you
also have sisters.Your life is God's gift to you. What you do for
others is your gift to God

Skip the post : Nothing to read - Self Ramble

How do I forgive myself?

How did I let this happen to me? I promised myself that no matter what happens, I will live life with integrity. I will respect myself more than anything in this world. Why do I keep making same mistakes all my life?
However, is this time for penance or shall I forgive myself as I have forgiven others?

Can I forgive myself?
I am going to love myself enough to get through this. I will not be deterred from most stringent self need.  Time to achieve what I set out for – the perfect role model.  You can't find better role models because you think so high of yourself. Now its time to prove to yourself that you have what it takes. Fight the indulgence and materialistic objects and reach quintessence.

Wiccan - Spiritual Recipes of oil and perfumes

MOON PRIESTESS PERFUME:
1 Drop Queen of the Night Oil
3 drops rose oil
1 drop lemon verbana oil
4 fl. oz (120cc) white spirit
Blend the three oils in a bottle. Add the white spirit, and shake all
vigorously. A cologne can be made by adding another 1 FL. oz (30cc)
of white spirit and 3 fl. oz (90cc) of distilled water.

MOON PRIEST COLOGNE:
1 fl.oz (30cc) lemon verbana or Lime oil
2 fl.oz (60cc) coriander oil
1/2 fl.oz. (15cc) camphor or myrrh oil
1/4 fl.oz. (7cc) white spirit
3 3/4 fl.oz. (105cc) distilled water
Blend the oils in a bottle, add the spirit and water and shake all
vigorously. Increasing the myrrh oils gives a darker perfume; increasing
the camphor, a lighter and more spicy one. All perfumes 'behave'
differently on different skins, so it is worth experimenting to find
your own balance.

EARTH MOTHER PERFUME:
Musk oil
Patchouli oil
Rose Oil
Blend in equal parts, bottle and shake well.

ISIS PERFUME:
Rose oil
Blue Lotus Oil
Blend equal parts, bottle and shake well.

SUN GODDESS PERFUME:
Cinnamon Oil
Lemon Verbana Oil
Ylang-Ylang Oil
Blend equal parts, bottle and shake well.

OIL FOR THE DARK OF THE MOON:
2 fl.oz.(60cc) tincture of myrrh
1 fl.oz.(30cc) oil of cinnamon
1/4 fl.oz.(7cc) Queen of the Night Oil
1 fl.oz.(30cc) oil of rose
Blend, bottle and shake well.

OIL FOR THE RITES OF ISIS:
7 drops oil of rose
2 Drops oil of Camphor
2 drops tincture of myrrh
3 drops oil of blue hyacinth
Blens the oils of rose, camphor, and blue hyacinth during the
waxing moon. Bottle and keep till the Moon wanes. Add the Myrrh

KALI INCENSE:
This is an individual and personalized incense, for attunement
to your own Dark of the Moon.
1 oz (30gm) sandalwood chips
1 oz (30gm) Dried jasmine flowers or 6 drops jasmine oil
1/2 oz (15gm) dried rose petals
2 drops of your own menstrual blood
Blens and use for private meditation during the onset of your
menstruation.

MORRIGAN INCENSE:
1 oz (30gm) musk amberette
1/2 oz (15gm) dragon's blood (resin used in violin staining)
4 drops patchouli oil
4 drops civet oil
4 drops of blood from your own finger
Blend at the dark of the Mon, put in a jar and bury in the earth
for 6 weeks (a flower pot of peat in a cool cupboard will do).

ATHENE OIL & INCENSE:
The olive is sacred to Athene, so use pure olive oil as an
anoiting oil in particular, rub between the palms of your hands
and annoit your feet, forehead and lips. For the Incense:
1 oz (30gm) cedarwood chips
1/2 oz (15gm) camphor
7 drops musk oil
Female sweat (as much as possible)
6 olives unstuffed and preferabbly black
Blend the first four ingredients well, at the full moon, and add
the olives. Put in a jar and leave for one month to mature. Then
remove the olives (Which will have imparted their essence to the
rest) and throw them away.
Stuffed olives, both black and green, are an obvious food for
a ritual of Athene, also stuffed vine leaves, a very Athenian dish.
If possible, of course, the wine should be Greek - especially
retsina, though that is an acquired taste.

PRE-RITUAL BATH SCENTS:
To cleanse and relax the body before a ritual, and to energize
the psychic centres. Fill small sachets of muslin cloth with equal
amounts of the following herbs:
Basil (for psychic energy)
Borage (to strengthen the inner self)
Lavendar (to banish mental and emotional stress)
Centuary (a traditional witch herb)
Rue (a traditional bathing herb)
Put a satchet into your bath five minutes before you get in, to
give the aromatics time to work.

DIANA OF THE MOON INCENSE:
It is recommended that it be made in the hour and the day of teh
Moon - i.e. the first or eighth hour after sunrise, or the third or
tenth hour after sunset, on a Monday.
Thoroughly mix equal amounts of the following:
Gum mastic
Jasmine
Mandrake
Orris root
add a few drops of wintergreen oil and moisten with a little clear
mineral oil.

AINE of KNOCKAINE INCENSE:
1/2 oz (15gm) meadowsweet flowers and leaf (gathered when the
plant is in full bloom and dried)
1/2 oz (15gm) finely chopped pine needles
1/2 fl.oz. (15cc) lemon verbana oil
By the way, meadowsweet blossom also makes a delicious wine.

Chuck Palahniuk quotes

Nobody really dies of starvation. They die of pneumonia brought on by malnutrion, kidney failure due to low potassium, shock caused by bones due to osteoporosis, seizures caused by lack of salt.

A child who is never coached with santa claus never develops ability to imagine. To him, nothing exist except the literal and tangible. The one who is ridiculed for his faith and imagination may never believe in anything tangible or intangible.

But a child who relinquishes the illusion of Santa claus, tooth fairy etc. may learn most important skillset and may recognize his faith and imagination. He has ability to dream and create his own reality. That child becomes his own auhtority. He determines natures of his own world and his own vision. And by doing so, he determines the reality of those who can't trust or those who can't imagine.

Single girl's secret - the reason you eat dinner with a man on a first date is so you know how he's going to fuck you. A slob who gobbles down the meal, never looks at a bite, you know not to crawl into bed with that guy.

Involvement of USA in spreading HIV

In 1974, Henry Kissinger submits report to National security counsil warning that the greatest threat to future of Americans is overpopulation in third world countries. We need the minerals and natural resources of Africa. Those banana republics will fall apart as ts thier populations rise to high? The only way America can protect its prosperity and political stability will be to depopulate the Third World?

By a coincidence Aids virus shows up in 1975. First explosion of Aids infection in Africa started in missionary health where Christian volunteers reused the same needles to vaccinate local kids against smallpox and diphtheria. From 1976 to 1980, the infection curve rose from 0.7% to 40% in some parts of West Africa. If you understand now how Free vaccination isn't free but paid for something. SOmehow former European colonies with rich natural resources of Gold and Diamonds like Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe were most hardhit by Aids epidemics. Somehow with in same Era concept of BLOOD DIAMOND managed to come into the light.

Have you ever heard of the Emergency Health Power Act? It was put in place after september 11 fiasco. Did you know that act allows the govt. to brand any one in as public- health menace, then lock them up for rest of thier life. There won't be any trial because this sector isn't considered to be part of crime sector. It is public safety. You won't be put in the jail but you will still be alone in some camp.

Of special interest is the theta level of brain activity, it is at this frequency that mystics report that vision and inspiration are most likely to occur. In those relaxed moment, while bathing, driving or falling asleep, as you lapse into theta brain waves, you typically retrieve deep, distant memories. You make connections and achieve relevations.

In order to stimulate theta brain waves, Tibetans Buddhist chants follow a droning rhythem which matches slower brain wave frequency. Among drumming cultures, shamanic drummer trigger theta activity by a steady, constant 4 beats per second.

WHY I KILLED GANDHI ??? - NATHURAM GODSE’S STATEMENT IN THE COURT

Nathuram Godse
Born in a devotional Brahmin family, I instinctively came to revere Hindu religion, Hindu history and Hindu culture. I had, therefore, been intensely proud of Hinduism as a whole. As I grew up, I developed a tendency to free thinking unfettered by any superstitious allegiance to any isms, political or religious. That is why I worked actively for the eradication of untouchability and the caste system based on birth alone. I openly joined anti-caste movements and maintained that all Hindus were of equal status as to rights, social and religious and should be considered high or low on merit alone and not through the accident of birth in a particular caste or profession. I used publicly to take part in organized anti-caste dinners in which thousands of Hindus, Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaisyas, Chamars and Bhangis participated. We broke the caste rules and dined in the company of each other. I have read the speeches and writings of Dadabhai Nairoji, Vivekanand, Gokhale, Tilak, along with the books of ancient and modern history of India and some prominent countries like England, France, America and’ Russia. Moreover, I studied the tenets of Socialism and Marxism. But above all I studied very closely whatever Veer Savarkar and Gandhiji had written and spoken, as to my mind these two ideologies have contributed more to the moulding of the thought and action of the Indian people during the last thirty years or so, than any other single factor has done.

All this reading and thinking led me to believe it was my first duty to serve Hindudom and Hindus both as a patriot and as a world citizen. To secure the freedom and to safeguard the just interests of some thirty crores (300 million) of Hindus would automatically constitute the freedom and the well-being of all India, one fifth of human race. This conviction led me naturally to devote myself to the Hindu Sanghtanist ideology and programme, which alone, I came to believe, could win and preserve the national independence of Hindustan, my Motherland, and enable her to render true service to humanity as well.

Since the year 1920, that is, after the demise of Lokamanya Tilak, Gandhiji’s influence in the Congress first increased and then became supreme. His activities for public awakening were phenomenal in their intensity and were reinforced by the slogan of truth and non-violence, which he paraded ostentatiously before the country. No sensible or enlightened person could object to those slogans. In fact, there is nothing new or original in them. They are implicit in every constitutional public movement. But it is nothing but a mere dream if you imagine that the bulk of mankind is, or can ever become, capable of scrupulous adherence to these lofty principles in its normal life from day to day. In fact, honour, duty and love of one’s own kith and kin and country might often compel us to disregard non-violence and to use force. I could never conceive that an armed resistance to an aggression is unjust. I would consider it a religious and moral duty to resist and, if possible, to overpower such an enemy by use of force. [In the Ramayana] Rama killed Ravana in a tumultuous fight and relieved Sita. [In the Mahabharata], Krishna killed Kansa to end his wickedness; and Arjuna had to fight and slay quite a number of his friends and relations including the revered Bhishma because the latter was on the side of the aggressor. It is my firm belief that in dubbing Rama, Krishna and Arjuna as guilty of violence, the Mahatma betrayed a total ignorance of the springs of human action.

In more recent history, it was the heroic fight put up by Chhatrapati Shivaji that first checked and eventually destroyed the Muslim tyranny in India. It was absolutely essentially for Shivaji to overpower and kill an aggressive Afzal Khan, failing which he would have lost his own life. In condemning history’s towering warriors like Shivaji, Rana Pratap and Guru Gobind Singh as misguided patriots, Gandhiji has merely exposed his self-conceit. He was, paradoxical, as it may appear, a violent pacifist who brought untold calamities on the country in the name of truth and non-violence, while Rana Pratap, Shivaji and the Guru will remain enshrined in the hearts of their countrymen forever for the freedom they brought to them.

The accumulating provocation of thirty-two years, culminating in his last pro-Muslim fast, at last goaded me to the conclusion that the existence of Gandhi should be brought to an end immediately. Gandhi had done very well in South Africa to uphold the rights and well-being of the Indian community there. But when he finally returned to India he developed a subjective mentality under which he alone was to be the final judge of what was right or wrong. If the country wanted his leadership, it had to accept his infallibility; if it did not, he would stand aloof from the Congress and carry on his own way. Against such an attitude there can be no halfway house. Either Congress had to surrender its will to his and had to be content with playing second fiddle to all his eccentricity, whimsicality, metaphysics and primitive vision, or it had to carry on without him. He alone was the Judge of everyone and everything; he was the master brain guiding the civil disobedience movement; no other could know the technique of that movement. He alone knew when to begin and when to withdraw it. The movement might succeed or fail, it might bring untold disaster and political reverses but that could make no difference to the Mahatma’s infallibility. ‘A Satyagrahi can never fail’ was his formula for declaring his own infallibility and nobody except himself knew what a Satyagrahi is.

Thus, the Mahatma became the judge and jury in his own cause. These childish insanities and obstinacies, coupled with a most severe austerity of life, ceaseless work and lofty character made Gandhi formidable and irresistible. Many people thought that his politics were irrational but they had either to withdraw from the Congress or place their intelligence at his feet to do with, as he liked. In a position of such absolute irresponsibility, Gandhi was guilty of blunder after blunder, failure after failure, disaster after disaster.

Gandhi’s pro-Muslim policy is blatantly in his perverse attitude on the question of the national language of India. It is quite obvious that Hindi has the most prior claim to be accepted as the premier language. In the beginning of his career in India, Gandhi gave a great impetus to Hindi but as he found that the Muslims did not like it, he became a champion of what is called Hindustani. Everybody in India knows that there is no language called Hindustani; it has no grammar; it has no vocabulary. It is a mere dialect; it is spoken, but not written. It is a bastard tongue and crossbreed between Hindi and Urdu, and not even the Mahatma’s sophistry could make it popular. But in his desire to please the Muslims he insisted that Hindustani alone should be the national language of India. His blind followers, of course, supported him and the so-called hybrid language began to be used. The charm and purity of the Hindi language was to be prostituted to please the Muslims. All his experiments were at the expense of the Hindus.

From August 1946, onwards the private armies of the Muslim League began a massacre of the Hindus. The then Viceroy, Lord Wavell, though distressed at what was happening, would not use his powers under the Government of India Act of 1935 to prevent the rape, murder and arson. The Hindu blood began to flow from Bengal to Karachi with some retaliation by the Hindus. The Interim Government formed in September was sabotaged by its Muslim League member’s right from its inception, but the more they became disloyal and treasonable to the government of which they were a part, the greater was Gandhi’s infatuation for them. Lord Wavell had to resign as he could not bring about a settlement and he was succeeded by Lord Mountbatten. King Log was followed by King Stork.

The Congress, which had boasted of its nationalism and socialism, secretly accepted Pakistan literally at the point of the bayonet and abjectly surrendered to Jinnah. India was vivisected and one-third of the Indian Territory became foreign land to us from August 15, 1947. Lord Mountbatten came to be described in Congress circles as the greatest Viceroy and Governor-General this country ever had. The official date for handing over power was fixed for June 30, 1948, but Mountbatten with his ruthless surgery gave us a gift of vivisected India ten months in advance. This is what Gandhi had achieved after thirty years of undisputed dictatorship and this is what Congress party calls ‘freedom’ and ‘peaceful transfer of power’. The Hindu-Muslim unity bubble was finally burst and a theocratic state was established with the consent of Nehru and his crowd and they have called ‘freedom won by them with sacrifice’ – whose sacrifice? When top leaders of Congress, with the consent of Gandhi, divided and tore the country – which we consider a deity of worship – my mind was filled with direful anger.

One of the conditions imposed by Gandhi for his breaking of the fast unto death related to the mosques in Delhi occupied by the Hindu refugees. But when Hindus in Pakistan were subjected to violent attacks he did not so much as utter a single word to protest and censure the Pakistan Government or the Muslims concerned. Gandhi was shrewd enough to know that while undertaking a fast unto death, had he imposed for its break some condition on the Muslims in Pakistan, there would have been found hardly any Muslims who could have shown some grief if the fast had ended in his death. It was for this reason that he purposely avoided imposing any condition on the Muslims. He was fully aware of from the experience that Jinnah was not at all perturbed or influenced by his fast and the Muslim League hardly attached any value to the inner voice of Gandhi.

Indian court

Gandhi is being referred to as the Father of the Nation. But if that is so, he had failed his paternal duty inasmuch as he has acted very treacherously to the nation by his consenting to the partitioning of it. I stoutly maintain that Gandhi has failed in his duty. He has proved to be the Father of Pakistan. His inner-voice, his spiritual power and his doctrine of non-violence of which so much is made of, all crumbled before Jinnah’s iron will and proved to be powerless.
Briefly speaking, I thought to myself and foresaw I shall be totally ruined, and the only thing I could expect from the people would be nothing but hatred and that I shall have lost all my honour, even more valuable than my life, if I were to kill Gandhiji. But at the same time I felt that the Indian politics in the absence of Gandhiji would surely be proved practical, able to retaliate, and would be powerful with armed forces. No doubt, my own future would be totally ruined, but the nation would be saved from the inroads of Pakistan. People may even call me and dub me as devoid of any sense or foolish, but the nation would be free to follow the course founded on the reason which I consider to be necessary for sound nation-building. After having fully considered the question, I took the final decision in the matter, but I did not speak about it to anyone whatsoever. I took courage in both my hands and I did fire the shots at Gandhiji on 30 January 1948, on the prayer-grounds of Birla House.

I do say that my shots were fired at the person whose policy and action had brought rack, ruin, and destruction to millions of Hindus. There was no legal machinery by which such an offender
could be brought to book and for this reason, I fired those fatal shots.

I bear no ill will towards anyone individually but I do say that I had no respect for the present government owing to their policy, which was unfairly favourable towards the Muslims. But at the same time I could clearly see that the policy was entirely due to the presence of Gandhi. I have to say with great regret that Prime Minister Nehru quite forgets that his preachings and deeds are at times at variances with each other when he talks about India as a secular state in season and out of season, because it is significant to note that Nehru has played a leading role in the establishment of the theocratic state of Pakistan, and his job was made easier by Gandhi’s persistent policy of appeasement towards the Muslims.

I now stand before the court to accept the full share of my responsibility for what I have done and the judge would, of course, pass against me such orders of sentence as may be considered proper. But I would like to add that I do not desire any mercy to be shown to me, nor do I wish that anyone else should beg for mercy on my behalf. My confidence about the moral side of my action has not been shaken even by the criticism levelled against it on all sides. I have no doubt that honest writers of history will weigh my act and find the true value thereof some day in future.

Buddhism and four forces

Asking for alms

Part of the training of a Zen Buddhist monk is a practice known as takuhatsu - the begging pilgrimage. As well as helping the monasteries, which depend for their existence on donations, and teaching the student humility, this practice has another purpose too, that of purifying the town in which the monk lives.

This is because, according to Zen philosophy, the giver, the beggar and the alms money itself all form part of an important chain of equilibrium.

The person doing the begging does so because he is needy, but the person doing the giving also does so out of need.

The alms money serves as a link between these two needs, and the atmosphere in the town improves, since everyone is able to act in a way in which he or she needed to act.

The four forces

Father Alan Jones says that in order to build our soul we need the Four Invisible Forces: love, death, power and time.

We must love because we are loved by God. We must have an awareness of death in order to understand life fully.

We must struggle in order to grow, but without becoming entrapped by the power that is gained through that struggle, because we know that power is worthless.

Finally, we must accept that our soul, although eternal, is at this moment caught in the web of time, with all its opportunities and limitations. We must therefore behave as if time existed and do everything we can to value each second.

These Four Forces cannot be treated as problems to be solved because they are beyond our control. We must accept them and let them teach us what we need to learn

Most touching memory from Progressive Education

This is one of the most touching Memory from my school days in Progressive Education.

My class mate Shivani Sailana was hosting her birthday party at her home when we were in 6th Grade. My grandfather was very sick and was on last stage of cancer. He was very thin, sick, Hairline receding and was starting to lose memory.

I decided if I could win any of the prizes in the game at the party, I would gift it to my Grand father. I informed the boys about my plan. My friends Devashish and Mayur decided that they would help me and would make sure I win. They told all the boys to help me out and everyone agreed. Somehow the game was a game of tagging and person who gets maximum tags win the game.

You had to tag people with :
who is your best friend
who is best dancer etc.

Boys started tagging me with all the notes while girls started game bit fair (tagging only thier closest friends) but realized the game was getting lopsided with me getting all the tags. So they had a decision who they will tag in change. Host realized the game wasn't fun anymore and called the game quits.

I won the game by fair margin and was awarded with Flashy lighted keychain. It looked pretty and something my grand father can use for his car. My grand father really loved the keychain. Turns out it was one of the last 3 gifts I gave him. He passed away a month later.

I do not remember if I thanked anyone back then or not but I do owe it to everyone
